Best thing to buy for $100
Unfortunately their quality has gone down recently. I’m not sure id still consider them BIFL. They’ve still got good customer service but I’ve had to send my wave+ in twice for repairs. In r/mulitools the Victorinox spirit seems to be the consensus better quality tool.

Looking for a BIFL multi-tool
Swistool, I believe the one I have is called the spirit x. Don't bother getting the one with the little ratchet, and get a hard plastic sheath for it. I've had Leatherman 's. They don't hold a candle.

Best Buy it for Life Gift?
Victorinox (the maker of the original Swiss Army knife) makes the Swisstool Spirit. It has been in business nearly 100 years longer than Leatherman and had a lifetime warranty long before Leatherman ever made their first tool. The Swisstool Spirit is widely considered the best EDC multitool money can buy. The fit and finish are a cut above anything Leatherman makes. The tools on the Spirit are individually sprung just like on a swiss army knife, meaning you never get tools "clumping" (multiple tools coming out at a time) like you can on a Leatherman when it gets sticky. Also, not just the blade, but \*every\* tool on the Spirit locks in the open position. This is a valuable feature that makes the tool much safer to use, especially when we are doing things we shouldn't be doing. (I have 2 scars on my right index finger from the blade on my SAK snapping shut on me when I was a kid - didn't learn my lesson the first time - this is why locking tools matter) Subjectively, the Spirit is a beautiful tool. It is comfortable in the pocket and the hand due to its curved handle. It's the only thing I own that is likely to become a family heirloom.
