What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy but now you swear by it?
No, specifically I mean ThermoWorks Thermapen. [Here](https://www.thermoworks.com/thermapen-one/?sku=THS-235-447&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22389901393&gclid=CjwKCAiAwqHIBhAEEiwAx9cTeaOUltGwAw7bbOa6ncCph1DKYwcM8snjEXwzWkEAUPy_ykUZgJPsUBoC8iUQAvD_BwE) is the current model; it's not cheap but is incrediblly well made, quick, accurate, etc. It regularly goes on sale during the holidays, and they have a cheaper line called ThermoPop which is also accurate, just not as fast. I have had mine for over a decade at this point (so my cost per year is cheaper than those garbage ones on AliExpress), have used it thousands of times in all sorts of applications (smoking, roasting, grilling, jam making, candy making, etc.), and it's still working as well as they day I bought it. I have never had luck with cheaper alternatives.

Meat thermometer tips
Your search begins and ends with Thermoworks. Not the cheap shit on Amazon. Order direct. They will send you a package of jellybeans and a handy laminated card with cooking temps. Fantastic company and products. Look no further. Personally you should have a “remote” (leave in) thermometer like the Dot AND an instant thermometer like the thermapen or thermopop. Both have their uses.

What is the best kitchen gadget under $100 that you own?
My Mk4 just died (manufactured 2019) and I’ve got a new Thermapen ONE on the way. Their customer service is fantastic and their warranty is great too! I had always said that if mine died I’d replace it. Just put my money where my mouth is and am very pleased!!

Meat thermometer tips
Completely agree. I have a Thermopen One and a chefalarm. The wired probes are inexpensive, reliable and not dependent on a wireless receiver. I bought an ambient air probe for the chefalarm so I can see how accurate oven thermostats are and that’s saved me a lot of trouble.

What is the best kitchen gadget under $100 that you own?
They are actually not sold on Amazon. Go to thermoworks website. I misspelled the product in my original comment and you can find the thermapen one for $109 or the classic for $89 on their site. There is also nothing wrong with the Thermopop 2 which goes for $39

As with any time a food thermometer comes up, go with Thermoworks. They are the best and are designed for use in commercial kitchens, so they should last a lifetime in your home kitchen. What is the best kitchen gadget under $100 that you own?
Just to be clear I assume you mean Thermapen (not Thermopen) made by ThermoWorks. I have 3 of them going back like 20 years. Original still works perfectly and temps on all 3 still match. Anyone that cooks should have one.

What brands do you trust to always deliver a high quality product?
Here's my list of brands that have earned my loyalty: * **Saddleback leather -** It's pricy, but I've never been disappointed with anything I've purchased there and the quality is rock solid. I've now bought multiple bags, a wallet that I've carried for 10+ years, and a desk pad. * **Patagonia** \- Great company, great products, great warranty. * **Lodge** \- The best value Cast Iron around. Sure, you can find better pans. . . for 5-10x the cost. Lodge delivers an excellent product at a very fair price. * **Spyderco** \- I spent a lot of years casually collecting pocket knives, with well over a hundred pocket knives in my set. Spyderco isn't necessarily the fanciest, and some people don't care for the look, but their excellent quality and the functionality is top notch. * **Victorinox** \- A Swiss Army Knife is still a great knife and I carry one regularly. Their multi-tools are better than Leatherman, and their kitchen knives are rockstars for the price. * **ThermoWorks** \- If you want a good thermometer (and if you cook, you do), this is the brand you should buy. The Thermapen is the gold standard, but the ThermoPop is a great budget option, the SPOT is a great fridge thermometer, and the DOT is an amazing probe thermometer. I've got half a dozen thermometers from ThermoWorks and I wouldn't buy one from anyone else. * **Rockwell Razors** \- Traditional safety razors. I bought their Original 6S Stainless from their first Kickstarter. The first attempt didn't cut it quality-wise. Rockwell made it right by replacing the razors from everyone who received the first batch of sub-par razors. I haven't seen any Kickstarter company that went as far as Rockwell did to take care of their backers. And the final product hit it out of the park. I've bought multiple razors from them since and they're all excellent. I'm probably forgetting a few, but I have trust and faith in the quality of anything I buy from these companies.
