should we spend $800 on a wood standing desk surface?
I bought the uplift v2 4 leg with walnut butcher block last november. I love it, the difference between my previous ikea mdf deskstop and a butcher block top is night and day. My thinking is if you're going to spend the kind of money for a premium product, buy the premium product you want. otherwise you're paying more for something that's only kind of what you want. My mdf top after 10 years had uneven surfaces (grooves from water damage), the veneer was peeled away and every time i wiped it down with cleaning supplies more of the desk came apart. that's my two cents.

We bought a used uplift 2 for 25% of its original price. They were popular in the pandemic and lots of them for sale if you live somewhere with lots of tech bros.

I just want to say I really like my UPLIFT. The point of failure on these desks is always going to be the motors which you can probably replace the individual legs (possibly under warranty?) since they’re all assembled by the user at their destination. I will say I am happy with the quality of wood I got from UPLIFT.

I just splurged on two solid wood tops and commercial V2 frames from Uplift for our home office. My wife and I chose the wide plank walnut tops. As a hobbyist woodworker, I can confirm that the tops are top notch quality and very well made. I have no regrets, but these Uplift solid tops are so nice that I’m almost afraid to mess them up or put too many holes in the bottom for custom components and configurations. I feel like maybe we should have saved $$ on the tops and invested that money into other things for our office like better chairs, storage, etc since are building out this office from scratch. In hindsight, I would probably still choose Uplift frames but maybe with the faux wood tops instead. Also: the warranty for Uplift are some of the longest I’ve seen: 15 years included and a very affordable optional warranty for an additional 10 years.

When buying things that i will be using for potentially the next decade or more, i ALWAYS buy the nicest version i can afford. You'll be living with this desk for a long time, it makes sense to get the one that is the most durable and nicest to look at.
