#New Shoe Day; Crockett & Jones Aldershot Black Edition 6E derby boots in Black Scotch Grain & Black Rough-Out Suede
Bahahaha, I'm sorry not sorry 🤣😏😜 These boots are sooooooo sick, and though I could have gotten the brown version, I'm glad I hadn't (especially because I already own a pair of brown boots, as you have seen!). In fact, I fear that my C&J Northcote boots won't get much wear time going forward; the C&J Aldershot Black Edition is everything ha ha ha 🖤🥾😘

Allow me to add u/Alternative-Series9; the Aldershot brown boots are utterly sublime and beautiful 🤎, and I very nearly purchased them. The reason I did not is because I already wear *[Crockett & Jones Northcote](https://www.crockettandjones.com/products/northcote-darkbrown-wax-calf)* in dark brown wax calf, and needed black boots. I would strongly urger anyone to consider the Aldershot boots in either colourway over the [C&J Coniston collection](https://www.crockettandjones.com/search?q=coniston), but if you cannot get Aldershot Black Edition, [Coniston Black Edition](https://www.crockettandjones.com/collections/coniston/products/coniston-the-black-editions) is almost as nice and a good alternative (now £525, was formwrly £500 before price increases, and not on sale at present).

Thank you, and they are truly fab! 🖤 I just finished posting up my journey thread, and wrote about the price in this comment *[here](https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyItForLife/comments/1hv5f03/comment/m5qffb9/)*, but here are the deets: The **[Crockett & Jones Aldershot Black Edition](https://www.crockettandjones.com/products/northcote-darkbrown-wax-calf)** are in a discontinued colourway, and only available as a special order. They are normally £610 or thereabouts. That price is determined from what the current, in collection *[C&J Aldershot Dark Brown Scotch Grain & Dark Brown Rough-Out Suede](https://www.crockettandjones.com/collections/mens-boots-collection/products/aldershot-darkbrown-scotch-grain)* boots, which are £610. However, recently and since the 27th December, the Aldershot brown boots came up in sale for £460, which is a massive saving! As my post thread details, in early December '24, I was able to try on the Aldershot brown boots, but the flagship C&J London store had a single pair left of Aldershot Black Edition in my size! I didn't purchase at the time though. Once I found out about the sale on the 27th, and 30 mins before the store closed, I rang them up and asked if they could apply the sale price of the brown boot to the Black Edtion (if still available), and they said *yes*! With an addtional £6 delivery charge, bought the shoes, which arrived last week, and I have been overjoyed since at my military-esque/Japanese badass black aesthetic dress boot! 🥾💗🥰

#### NSD; boots arrived yayayayayayayyayayayayay happy noises 😍🥾 Cue Thursday 2nd Jan' 2024 (earlier yesterday), and the boots arrived safely and securely! I was stupidly giddy (🤦🏽♂️😅), and using my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 unfolded took many unboxing pics and pics of the boots worn once again. I did a short wear test to confirm initial comfort, and to me the shoes look utterly badass; I was in love 😍. When I got time I whittled down my pics and edited then, and then spent this very evening eating various cheeses and drinking *MOAR* tea whilst typing out this post 🤣☕ #### ...maybe I should not drink so much tea as I waffle on and on and on...☕🤪 I hope you all enjoyed another banter in the form of a wall of text (😂), but seriously, I adore my new boot collection from Crockett & Jones, and if I need support on my new boots, I know C&J will sort me out. Still need to properly test them this week, but from the experience, customer service (not you bank grr), and quality and craftsmanship of the shoes, I cannot be happier to start 2025 with some metal AF military-styled Japanese-esque boots! 🥾🖤 Happy New Year everyone! 🎉🍾👞

#### Celebrating the Holidays 🍻🎄/⛱️☔: Cue the holiday festivities and celebrations, much drinking and eating, and feeling a little full during the rest of the month (still do 😂). I also visited Cornwall as part of another yearly tradition with family, still wearing my Northcote's, but was now dreaming of the Aldershot Black and how they would fare in the windy cold coasts and sandy small towns around [Newquay](https://maps.app.goo.gl/S5knqBk6CBoKkWne9) and [Truro](https://maps.app.goo.gl/itBRpJMZ1ShaM5CL7). #### C&J Winter Sale email: Fast forward, on Friday 27th Dec '24 I received a C&J Winter Sale email; looking through the collection, I spotted that the Aldershot brown boots are now on sale at £460! That day, I logged into my account and added a pair in my chosen size to my basket, went through filling in the checkout details, and as I was about to confirm the order, something in the back of my head, in an assertive voice, said **STOP**. In that very second my inner voice spoke, I knew why; an idea had formed, and I directly contacted the flagship C&J store over the phone. It was 4:30 pm that day and the store would shut at 5:00 pm, so I needed work fast. Speaking to Basil from the store, I wanted to first check if the previously tried Aldershot Black Edition was still in my size, and it was. I then explained that I had saw the winter sale email and saw the Aldershot brown boots on sale, and as Basil listened I think he cottoned on to what I wanted to ask: if that sale price can, humbly, be attributed for the black edition of the boots in the store. Without hesitation, Basil said *yes*, this was something they could do (🍾). I was very grateful, and after some exchanges and sharing of my personal details, a custom order link was emailed to me to place order. During that call Basil (and another staff member?) were organising my boots for delivery to my home, getting it ready there and then (talk about a service!). We ended the call as it was just before 5:00 pm and the store would shortly closed; after I made a cup of tea and logged onto my laptop to check the email and payment link.

#### Trip to London; Museums and Flagship shoe stores: Until, that is, December 2024. As part of my yearly London trip (this time for three days), I specifically made the effort to see some museums, especially visit the *[Science Museum](https://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/)* to see the **[Clockmakers of London exhibition](https://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/see-and-do/clockmakers-museum)** (still need to dump the massive picture set in Imgur). Throughout that London trip, I exclusively wore my Northcote's. I made my second (potentially yearly tradition?) trip to Crockett & Jones London Flagship store on 92 Jermyn Street, I asked if I could test out some boots, starting with the Coniston in as close to my size as available, and other similar offerings. I made it clear that I would likely *not* be making a purchase on the visit as I'm still researching, but this did not hamper my experience at all; as previous visits, the staff at C&J treated me very well, throughly helped me, and even polished my Northcote's too! Nataliia- correct spelling I believe according to her handwriting- helped me on my visit, and noticing my semi-formal casual fit, sterling silver jewellery from rings, bracelets, and pendants, my Omega Constellation Globemaster timepiece, and general conversations on my multiple hobbies, she attentively understood what look I was going for, and genuinely sussed out what style of boots to try. She made the process effortless and I cannot thank her enough for the experience. Nataliia re-measured my feet and, after hearing my previous shoe size issues (especially the Chelsea III's), politely recommended with emphasis that I should consider size 6 UK in E fitting for year-round all-weather comfort. After testing the Coniston black boots, my dream of owning the them broke (💔); the shoe, beautiful and boss as it is, had slightly rounder/bulbous like toe area, and not as sleek as my Northcote. It absolutely ruined the shoe for my tastes, and though it would work and did look great on me, it was just not 100% the best look to me nor to Nataliia either. The next shoe Nataliia selected for me to try was the Aldershot in brown, and it took a monumental effort on my part to **NOT** purchase them outright. The colourway, style, design, silhouette on my feet...everything was perfect! Yet, I didn't want brown again, I have the Northcote's, and required/needed black boots. Not all was lost though, Nataliia had an idea and went to the back of the store to dig out something. As I waited I did try the *[Ross](https://www.crockettandjones.com/collections/mens-boots-collection/products/ross-chocolate-hurricane-hide)*, and I nearly convinced myself that I could get another brown shoe (this or Aldershot), but I did a strong in-my-mind slap around the face reality check 🤣 Nataliia came back with the ever iconic green C&J box, and unpacked a familiar shoe in a different colourway...*Aldershot* in *Black Scotch Grain & Black Rough-Out Suede*! Not only was this the colourway I wanted to see, after testing the brown edition, but it was also *in size 6 UK* with an E fitting! I tried them on, and was torn because now I *absolutely knew* that the Aldershot boot is **exactly what I want** (and supplanted the Coniston completely into submission), but now I couldn't decide which colour (😭; cue first world problems). Both were utterly magnificent, suited me perfectly, but both were also more expensive than the Coniston as well. Aldershot are (as of 2024) RRP £610.00, whilst Coniston Black Edition is RRP £500.00. As mentioned earlier, Aldershot Black Edition are discontinued, and this particular boot in the store was the last in that size available, but I politely reaffirmed that I wouldn't make a purchase now, but would need a bit of time to consider my options before purchasing a boot direct from the store. We said our goodbyes and said our Merry Christmas and Happy New Year wishes, and I left the store, now certain of the boot but uncertain on colour.

#### Shortlisting my next (C&J) black boots: Now that I had better idea, respect for my feet, and what I required, I honed down and amended my 2023 research throughout 2024. My previous pick of new shoe remained, for a very long time after the Northcote's, the **[Crockett & Jones Coniston Black Suede Rough-Out](https://www.crockettandjones.com/products/coniston-the-black-editions)**, and to be honest, I didn't see much else I really wanted so badly. There was some NOS C&J black suede chukkas or *[C&J Chelsea 11](https://www.crockettandjones.com/collections/mens-boots-collection/products/chelsea-11-the-black-editions)*, but the only other highlight was *[C&J Aldershot Dark Brown Scotch Grain & Dark Brown Rough-Out Suede](https://www.crockettandjones.com/collections/mens-boots-collection/products/aldershot-darkbrown-scotch-grain)*. However, that Aldershot, in gorgeous brown hues, is the wrong colourway for what I wanted, and not so different from my existing Northcote's. In fact, there was a **[Aldershot Black Edition](https://www.crockettandjones.com/products/aldershot-black-scotch-grain)** from the *[AW21 collection](https://www.crockettandjones.com/blogs/the-article/aw21-details-aldershot)*, but that is currently discontinued and can only be obtained as a special order. I also didn't, during the first half of 2024, thought much of the Aldershot, but the latter half of that year it did creep up alongside the Coniston boots in my mind, even though Coniston remained my number one choice.

## Incoming thread alert! Posted this in r/GoodYearWelt ([here](https://www.reddit.com/r/goodyearwelt/comments/1hs9zyz/new_shoe_day_crockett_jones_aldershot_black/)) and r/Boots ([here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Boots/comments/1hsab29/new_shoe_day_crockett_jones_aldershot_black/)), but thought that this subbreddit may enjoy my little journey in my new BIFL boots, which I got last week. I have only modified parts of the post thread for an easier read. Just over a year later after my previous Crockett & Jones purchases; **[Chelsea III](https://www.reddit.com/r/goodyearwelt/comments/17txlo1/nsd_crockett_jones_chelsea_3_nos_and_my_journey/)** and **[Northcote NOS](https://www.reddit.com/r/goodyearwelt/comments/18bd1vc/new_shoe_day_crockett_jones_northcote_nos_boots/)**, I have finally added a third pair of C&J shoes to my collection. Though the former boots, Chelsea III boots, was found at a charity shop in unworn condition, and the latter Northcote boots was a discontinued, unsold, but still new-old stock from an European authorised dealer, this third purchase was directly from the London flagship *[Crockett & Jones 92 Jermyn Street](https://maps.app.goo.gl/PtFJ6WDKaxpj2abr8)* store! Ironically, it is technically NOS as well due to the unique colourway, but this is direct from the brand and from their own store too. - **[Crockett & Jones Aldershot Black Edition](https://www.crockettandjones.com/products/northcote-darkbrown-wax-calf)** in scotch grain & black rough-out suede, Vibram Cleated rubber sole, Fitting E standard, Last 375, Size 6 UK, *new-old-stock* of this discontinued colourway! - £610.00 RRP. - Purchased at sale price £460.00 + £6.00 home delivery [Imgur Album](https://imgur.com/D48aKxH) of the above shoes, initial wear and unboxing. ## Preamble: In my previous write-ups, I explored how I got into dress shoes as a side hobby and as a part of my #BuyitforLife mindset (check my *[C&J Chelsea III](https://www.reddit.com/r/goodyearwelt/comments/17txlo1/nsd_crockett_jones_chelsea_3_nos_and_my_journey/)* post for context). One of the biggest influences was not, unusually, Daniel Craig's 007 C&J boots and shoes, which was one factor, but weirdly a specific black sneaker during the pandemic. I still wear and enjoy that sneaker, but essentially retired the rest of my then sneaker collection, especially after getting the then new C&J boots. (I can't type or say that brand due to this subs rules, but my aforementioned post has the deets!). After a year of use, checking what could be my next dress boot in that time, I was strongly attracted in replacing my mostly black sneaker for proper black tough boots with a military aspect and commando or cleated soles. This wouldn't completely stop me wearing those sneakers, but they would instead be relegated for home use or quick shops. Every other outdoor trip would be governed by my Northcote's and this mystery black boot. #### Learning about proper shoe sizes and fit issues: During that time further, I almost stopped wearing my Chelsea III's. There's nothing wrong with them, they will be worn on occasion, but I have learned hard lessens in how my feet react to shoes and wearing comfort over shorter and longer periods. My Chelsea III's are far, far, too snug, and I must use thin socks. The extremely small shape, Last 238, and almost form-fitting size 5.5 UK (my actual size) meant some discomfort when wearing for longer than a day, and too much discomfort for continued following days of wear. I now understand the relevance of checking shoes in person, getting advice, and playing it safe, for select types of boots. Weirdly, though my Northcote's are also size 5.5 UK, as they have a more roomy shape, Last 348, they don't give me that kind of discomfort. The only time I had an issue was likely user error on the hard concrete streets of London and the London Underground, where I think I hadn't tightened my left boot correctly, so I sprained the bottom left-hand muscles of my foot (ouch 🤦🏽♂️). That's lesson number two: check that shoes and boots are laced comfortably tight!

HNY with my BIFL boots; C&J Northcote! 👞🎉
Thank you, and Happy New Year to you and your loved ones! 😊🎆 I don't post often, and this is my first post in this group, but most of what I buy is predominantly made to last, or have multi year usage (tech wise). I think fine shoes and boots that are made well, whether affordable or expensive, should be celebrated and cherished. Work boots and even select sneakers are a part of that too! There's a pair if badass Oak Tree boots I'm a huge fan of, the *[Trench Boot in Whitewash Overdye Abetone, Commando Sole](https://oakstreetbootmakers.com/trench-boot-whitewash-overdye-abetone-commando-sole)*, but limited/sold out (😭). Though I'm unsure if they work with what I wear, I think they are just badass! Maybe I'll add a pair to my collection if they come up again. Clarks and Timberland are ace choices too, which models do you have? I also like Cheaney & Sons too, but Crockett & Jones are my ultimate fav bootmakers for quality and price, with my aspirational favourites being Gaziano & Girling (UK), Yohei Fukuda (JP), and Siroeno Yosui (JP) (checkout there [YT channel](https://youtube.com/@ken_kataoka) for ASMR traditional Japanese shoemaking craftsmanship!).
