Cheapest phone that isn't so old I can't download apps? iPhone 7 is causing me problems.
Don't get a pixel 6, they are losing their software updates this year. I am moving up to a 10 because I got it on sale for Black Friday. But check out the "a" versions instead, The pixel 9A is almost all of the features of the current gen, but for a much cheaper price

Android phones that can last a long time?
Hate to hear it. I just had to get a new phone. My Google 6a just quit updating. I now own a Pixel 10 pro and look forward to another 6/7 yrs.

Android phones that can last a long time?
Typing from my mint condition Pixel 6 Pro, which has hit the floor on countless occasions. I am waiting on the 10 Pro XL to be delivered this week (oddly enough, it has an identically sized screen - 6.8") because ONE time this phone gave me a bit of a bootloader loop, and a full format/reset is the appropriate fix to keep this one on the shelf as a backup. That loader loop was 5 months ago now, and while concerning, I managed to bring it back with zero data loss. Point being, Pixels of some generations can be hella reliable.

Android phones that can last a long time?
We've used the Pixel line of phones for years. They are extremely repairable, get timely updates for years, and are overall solid phones. They are not as solid as iPhones, but they cost half as much. The Pixel one lasted 8 years for us. Pixel 3s lasted around 3 years. The 5a had two screens that cracked from dropping the phone, but they were easy to replace. It was before the days of under screen fingerprint readers. The Pixel 8 pro and pixel 9 pro seem solid so far. They've had many drops, with the Mous cases, and have not had any issues so far. I find the Pixel phones a joy to use, compared to my work iPhone and will keep going with the Pixel phones.

Android phones that can last a long time?
I'm surprised by your pixel experience, I'm on a 7pro and it's one of the few phones I've ever had that still works like day one after a lot of use. Fairphone have a lot of serviceable parts, plus 5 year guarantee and 8 years software support, but their specs are definitely not flagship level IMO so there is a trade-off there. If you want flagship hardware I'd go something like Galaxy S24FE. Security updates until October 2031, and the fan editions are the handsets Samsung make with all the hardware and firmware kinks worked out.

I need to keep this phone for as long as possible!
I bought my Pixel 3a back in Aug 2019. I spent $40 on a really good wallet case and tempered glass cover. The battery isn't lasting like it used to, I can't delete any more items, so the storage is almost always full, and it runs slowly. I think almost 6 years with no major issues has been more than I expected from my downgraded Pixel. Gonna buy a Pixel 8 or 9 pro soon and hope it lasts at least 4 years.

Cell phones - what's the closest brand to a BIFL?
I've yet to have an issue with any of my Pixel phones, they have all be excellent. Especially the cameras. Have the 8 Pro also.

I had a Pixel 4a for years and planned to keep it for many more, but got a trade in deal I couldn't refuse when switching carriers. I've got a Pixel 8 Pro now and confidently believe it will last many years as well.
