Merrell Nova GTX durability problems — looking for better waterproof alternatives
This is an issue with synthetic waterproof trail runners. I bought a pair of Altra Olympus GTX online, not realizing they were leather, but they’ve held up really well. They’re bulky, but seem to pretty durable.

Walking Shoes Recommendation?
That will depend on how they're used, they have a softer grippier sole for trails, and concrete wears them away faster. I still prefer my 2 styles of Altra trail runners for daily wear even on concrete over my walking shoe Altra Olympus, but it's a thing to be aware of if looking at longevity.

Need crew socks that will last
I wear Altra. The Olympus 6 GTX mids to be more specific. I don’t have wide feet, but your feet DO swell when you walk and it gets worse in high temperatures. So the wider toe boxes on altra are a huge advantage to me. Plus they’re zero drop shoes. Mail carriers and BIFL shoes aren’t really a thing. We can burn through a pair in a couple months tbh. But I can get a pair of the Olympus to last about six months and keep my feet, knees and hips from disintegrating.
