The designers of the original 990 were tasked with creating the best running shoe on the market. The Made in USA 990v6 embraces this original mandate with a series of performance-oriented updates. The upper eliminates the standard midfoot saddle, allowing the suede and synthetic overlays to flow from the heel to the toes over the mesh base, creating a fast, streamlined look. While the revamped design represents one of the most dramatic changes from one model generation to the next that the 990 has ever experienced, the biggest leap forward occurs inside. The added cushioning of the FuelCell midsole means that the evolution of the 990 is not only visible but also palpable. New Balance Made in USA shoes contain a domestic value of 70% or more. Made in USA accounts for only a limited portion of New Balance's US sales.

What Are the Best Travel Shoes That Are Actually Worth It?
This is going to be at least somewhat subjective but for me it’s New Balance 990s and it isn’t close. They’re durable and felt broken in the moment I put them on.

Shoes for standing/walking?
You’re getting a lot of Hoka suggestions, which is fair, but if you don’t like how squishy/bouncy Hokas are, then look at New Balance. I have a pair of Made in USA 990s that I’ve worn daily for a year and a half now, and the only real wear and tear on them I can tell is a little bit of balding starting on the rubber outsole. They have plenty of life left though. Super comfy and durable, and they come in any width imaginable to get the right fit.

What's everyone's go-to sneaker?
New balance 990s are the way. 2 weeks in Europe putting in 10+ miles each day and they were so unbelievably comfortable that over a year later they’re still my daily drivers. I plan to get a new pair right before the 2 year mark for a 2 week Japan trip, but I’ll probably keep the old pair as beaters for yard work, festivals, etc.

What's everyone's go-to sneaker?
New Balance 990v6 is the best sneaker I have ever had. Made in USA, and one pair lasts me 16-18mo of everyday wear. I can be relatively confident that they'll be available for a long time, and they have different colors come out all the time that don't look like the classic "New Balance dad shoe." Also, available in a huge range of sizes, where the majority of shoes don't even have wide sizes.

What's everyone's go-to sneaker?
I don’t think any sneaker is BIFL, but I really like the comfort and quality of New Balance Made in USA sneakers

Best Performance Lifestyle shoes?
If you like the 990v5s but want extra cushion, I’d suggest the 990v6. More modern foam, great durability and style (imo). You can find them below retail at Nordstrom Rack or Joe’s NB Outlet. If you’re wanting a true running shoe, I’d suggest trying some out in person, in particular: - Nike Pegasus — good outsole durability - ASICS Gel Kayano - ASICS gel Nimbus - HOKA Bondi 10 - New Balance 880v15

Best walking/daily shoes for traveling?
New balance 990 v6 are pretty amazing. The hokas are full of foam and are ok. You either love them or hate them. The 990's aren't the most attractive shoe but, in my opinion, are the most comfortable shoe I've ever owned. Asics gel-NYC is also a favorite of mine, I've just never owned them.

What brand of shoes that lasts?
As far cheap sneakers I scored some new balance 990’s for 100 at a new balance outlet. They retail for 220ish. The damn sneakers I’ve ever worn, they last such a long time, made in USA.

Going to Europe, suggestions for comfortable, not-ugly walking shoes that will last?
New Balance 990vX, 993, and 574s along with Reebok Club Cs are all pretty in-style at the moment. They’re tennis shoes, but you aren’t going to look like you’re about to go on a jog at any moment. New Balance shoes are comfortable and very durable. All that being said, you might be underestimating how often Europeans wear tennis shoes.

Cloud on or new balance?
I have a pair of the new balance 990s version six, and a pair of the 1080s, and those two shoes alone are some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever had on my feet. On cloud shoes are unique but not on the level of new balance. Only one other shoe would I recommend for all day everyday, ridiculously comfy shoes and that’s the asics gel nyc.
