Introducing the exquisite Dovo Ebony 'Bismarck' Cut Throat Razor, a true masterpiece that combines craftsmanship and functionality. This razor boasts an elegant ebony wood handle paired with a black oxidised carbon steel blade. Crafted from the finest carbon steel, with a full hollow ground blade, ensuring exceptional hardness, elasticity, and resistance to wear. The razor's name, 'Bismarck,' pays homage to Otto von Bismarck, a renowned statesman known for maintaining the delicate balance of power in Europe for decades. Named after the renowned 20th century straight razor design from Solingen, Germany, the Dovo Bismarck Oxidised 6/8 Cut Throat Razor continues the legacy of quality craftsmanship. Notable features include its ebony hue, weighty feel, and superior ease of use. Dimensions - 16 cm x 2.7 cm x 1.1 cm The Blade This straight razor is made of carbon steel with the material number 1.2210, better known as silver steel. In order to achieve a hardness of approximately 61 HRC, the material is heated to over 1000 degrees celsius and then immediately quenched with a special oil. The subsequent tempering at about 200 degrees celsius gives the blade elasticity and toughness. The stylish black finish is achieved by an abrasion-resistant burnishing. The Handle Ebony is one of the most valuable woods on earth. It is extremely hard and heavy. Therefore, it is perfect for the production of a high-quality handle. Its structure allows the wood to retain its shape even in humid environments and prevents swelling of the material. Several grind cycles are necessary to create the silky smooth surface.

Thank you. I was able to purchase the Dovo Bismarck through the New England Shaving Company. This will be a great Christmas gift!

Straight razor for personal grooming
Most of the cheap straight razors you see are soft steel toys that look nice on a shelf and fold up the moment they touch hair. What matters is the steel and the heat treatment. A real razor uses high carbon steel hardened somewhere around 61 to 63 HRC so it actually holds an edge instead of rolling after a few shaves. You also want a clean, even grind. Full hollow or quarter hollow is fine, but if the grind waves around, you'll fight it forever on the stones. The hardware matters too. Solid pins and a pivot that isn't sloppy. A loose pivot ruins your angle and usually sends the razor flying to the floor, which is how most razors die. If you want actual examples that don't suck, the Dovo Bismarck and the Ralf Aust 5/8 have been consistent for years and use heat treatment that isn't a mystery. Skip the shavettes. They look like straight razors but the disposable blade setup has enough slop to make the shave worse, and the tiny thin blades chip way faster than a real chunk of carbon steel.
