Classic Kånken Backpack in Vinylon Driving with a zipper that opens the entire main compartment. Removable seat cushion, small front pocket, simple shoulder straps and handles at the top. This classic backpack is equally suitable for trips to and from school or work, as well as for trekking and trips. The material is a resistant and light vinyl fabric that can support dirt and humidity. The spacious main compartment has a large opening with zipper, which facilitates packaging and unrest. It has two flat side pockets and a zipper pocket on the front, perfect for those bits and bobs that you want to have at hand. The foam seat cushion is stored in the interior rear pocket, where it prevents the content of the backpack from appearing against the back, and it is always within its reach for when you need to take a break and sit down, wherever you are. The transport system is simple but practical and consists of wanders in the upper part and thin and adjustable shoulder straps. The logo in the front is reflective. It also has an address label within the main compartment.

Whats some item you bought online that earned BIFL status?
The Fjällräven Kånken backpack I've had for eight years. It's been used more or less every day and still looks like new. Waxed, so it's water resistant too. They sell their wax, so it's possible to re-wax it when necessary.

Need Help Choosing a Backpack
I have a few tomtoc things and they are nice, but I would prefer Bellroy or Peak Design if I were to do that style. I will say that I was at the airport two months ago and I saw a guy wearing the Raven Backpack and it looked fantastic and I asked him how he liked it and he just went on and on. It’s super simple pack, but it’s really great. Fjallraven is a good company too.

Need Help Choosing a Backpack
Try the Raven Backpack from Fjallraven. Really any of their G-1000 backpacks will do the trick. My wife uses their Haulpack for a diaper bag and it’s been about 3 years and it looks brand new. If you go a more traditional route, you could try Frost River or Filson, but the prices go up and the look isn’t for everyone. If you like their stuff, respond to this comment and I can tell you about the ones I have of these brands. My go-to travel backpack for years was the Black Diamond Street Creek 24. Lots of features while still being a stuff sack type. Took that bag around the world and it too, looks new. The biggest failure points on packs are zippers. Look for branded zippers YKK or RIRI (RIRI is better, but probably wont see it on most bags). And generally the bigger the zipper, the longer it lasts. Things can get in between the teeth and it will still work unlike a smaller zipper. #10 is as big as you’ll typically see them and that’s great if you want a beefy zipper. 8-9 is good too. People have mentioned Osprey, and I have plenty of their stuff, but it’s a hiking brand. They have a few heritage line packs with a cleaner look, but unless you want ultralight and full synthetic fabrics, I’d look elsewhere.

Looking for a backpackthat can act as a purse/overnight bag and can be brought to work
I have a fjallraven kanken and really like it. They also have the mini version if the regular is too large for your tastes! I bought mine used on eBay and I've had it just shy of a year now- it's my work bag and I travel with it as well. Only complaint is that I wish the water bottle pocket was bigger but that's not really a big deal. I just use it for my sunglasses instead and put my bottle in the bag itself.

Can't decide on a backpack
Function, Form over aesthetics The Carhartt I've seen at TJ Maxx/Marshalls are just coasting on the brand new. I mean they are okay bags for school kids or w.e but not something that lasts I really like the Fjallraven Ravens and the fabric is good quality and sturdy. It has great organization, double water pockets and is comfortable too. The Kankens are meant for elementary school kids....not really meant for adults There is a youtube documentary covering the Kanken history.
