Need a backpack for everything
The answer is always a GoRuck GR1. Pricey, ugly, but built like a tank

Backpack suggestions?
GoRuck GR1, full stop. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it looks like a brick. But I've dragged mine through rucks, airports, blizzards, and a house fire lol

Backpack suggestions?
GR2 26L goes everywhere with me. It’s the single best backpack I’ve owned, and I use it daily for work items, travel with a bunch of smaller engineering kit on work trips, climb building rooftops and towers with it, and use it for personal travel. Well-designed layout, durable construction, lifetime warranty. Happened onto a sale a year or so ago, and I haven’t looked back. I came from an Eagle Industries three day pack that literally traveled the world with me, has soaked up jet fuel, hydraulic fluid, dust and god knows what else, briefly set on fire, shot at, thrown out of the back of a helicopter, and launched three Amazon warehouses. I still have it, but I’m sticking with the GR2. It’s that good. Goruck’s shoes are another great product. My feet are messed up from several of the above adventures, and the Mackalls are the only shoes that I seem to be able to wear without pain and fit my orthotics and toe box. I just sent one of my pairs to them to have a small tear from a bolt on the side of a cell tower repaired. No hassle. Decent turnaround. Now they have a scar. Still wear them as my rucking/workout shoes.

Need Help Choosing a Backpack
If money is no object I love my Goruck gr1 for everyday and gr2 for traveling. But jansport actually has a lifetime warranty and will repair or replace. My old school bag has probably been replaced at least twice and is still in good condition.

The Best Backpack Today?
Goruck GR1, but check out the “slick” versions that [Huckberry](https://huckberry.com/store/goruck/category/p/62576-gr1-1000d-slick-26l?utm_source=shopping&utm_medium=googlep&utm_campaign=shopping-acquisition-3P&utm_content=acquisition&utm_campaignid=10676784700&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=10676784700&gbraid=0AAAAADuFe05C8A-yvJOg0EPIPfdGC5Fka) offers. Same insanely durable 1000d cordura as any other Goruck, same lifetime guarantee, but a little more practically stylish than the [original version](https://www.goruck.com/products/gr1-usa?variant=44795834794084).

ThisTumi bag was stupid expensive but it's seen a dozen countries and been kicking ass for 11 years.
I bought a GoRuck GR1, happy to pay the price they charge because it’s hand made, made in USA and well designed (obvs. has lifetime warranty). I hear good things about Patagonia 👍

List your 3 favorite BIFL items and at least 1 regret or fail
1. Goruck GR1 - survived deployment and multiple field excursions. It’s been around the world and back with me and it looks like I got it out of the box yesterday. 2. Lodge cast iron and Dutch oven - never had a problem, period. 3. Tough to narrow down but probably my Moccamaster with a 1zpresso hand grinder. Great coffee every time. My only regret was a waxed canvas field jacket from Orvis but it’s no fault of the coat. It’s an awesome coat but I should’ve bought something warmer.
