Oil-tanned leather is used for the upper section, with a double layer over the toe for added protection on the job. A leather insole conforms to your foot's natural shape, letting these boots become more comfortable over time. A steel shank throughout the midsole increases both stability and support for those long stretches of time spent on your feet. Size: 11.5 .

A few brands I'll probably stick with for life
For me, it’s been Origin USA for my clothes & boots. Glock for pistols, kershaw (only the USA made ones) for pocket knife’s, wusthof for kitchen knife’s, Toyota for cars/trucks, saddleback leather for wallet/belt/briefcase/totes. Side note, Saddleback just started making boots but they are more than double the price of my tried & true OriginUSA boots. I still love my iron rangers from red wing as well so they’re a great buy.

First BIFL clothing for around $200
For boots, pay the difference and invest in a pair of Red Wings or something similar. I have both brands and my RW Iron Rangers are WAY nicer than my Thursday Captain boots that look similar. They were easier to break in and have held up really well through over the last few years. My Captains are much stiffer, the leather is thinner, and I think once they do break in, they won’t last nearly as long. (I bought them last year and haven’t worn them as much because my Red Wings are so much nicer that I end up reaching for them instead.)

What was the best purchase you made this year?
Red wing boots(used). I had my doubts because I go through boots like it’s going out of style in construction, but so far these have held up the best. I was so impressed I even got a used pair of iron rangers as a casual boot and I’m excited to try them

Does anyone have a lifetime work boot?
Whites and Nicks are definitely the gold standard but damn they're pricey. If he's hard on boots maybe start with some Red Wing Pecos or Iron Rangers to see if the extra investment is worth it before dropping 500+ on custom whites

[Request] Shoes that last longer than 5 months for people who actually work physical jobs?
Have you looked at Red Wing? They have a work line that might have want you need. If you want a heritage style boot, their Iron Rangers are pretty good. Expect to pay $350 for the Rangers, but they'll last you a long time. https://www.redwingshoes.com/

[BIFL Request] A work boot for ACTUALLY taking out on the field that doesn't look beauiful
A Red Wing dealer near me has a yearly tent sale where you can get all kinds of great deals on a bunch of different brands of shoes & boots. A couple of years ago, I was there and they had a stack of Red Wing steel toe boots that had the metatarsal guards removed (I think they are common for logger boots - it's a guard that covers the whole top of the foot). Anyways, they were really cheap because they were obviously altered (I think like $40) but the toe seemed like it has double or triple thick leather - I don't wear mine everyday but they have held up really well and are still quite comfortable. I doubt that it would be easy to find a similar deal, but I suppose you could look at a boot like that and maybe remove the metatarsal guard, so you still have an extra thick covered toe. Mine is very similar to style 6889.
