Which Carry On is the Best?
I’d consider the [Platinum® Elite International Carry-On Spinner](https://travelpro.com/products/platinum%c2%ae-elite-international-expandable-carry-on-spinner) This particular model is on the smaller side so it will work for international travel. I like their soft side carry-ons because they offer many more exterior pockets that come in handy especially if that’s all you’re traveling with. They’re also lightweight and expandable. TravelPro includes several useful interior components like a wet bag that you can remove if you prefer not using it. If you can see the TravelPro brand in person, I would suggest to do that so you can see all the additional features it offers over other brands. This was from an article, “Is Travelpro good for international travel?Absolutely. Most Travelpro carry-on suitcases meet the size restrictions for international airlines, including stricter carriers in Europe and Asia — but always check your specific airline’s guidelines, since a few are notoriously stingy with overhead space. If you’re hopping borders frequently, the Platinum Elite or Maxlite series offers lightweight builds, easy mobility, and enough internal organization to avoid opening your suitcase and seeing absolute chaos. What’s the difference between Maxlite and Platinum Elite? Think of the Maxlite as Travelpro’s practical little sibling: lighter, simpler, and more affordable. It’s perfect for casual travelers or anyone who prioritizes weight savings above bells and whistles. Platinum Elite, on the other hand, is the business class of the lineup — leather detailing, better wheels, higher-end materials, and thoughtful extras like a fold-out suiter and external USB port. If you travel often, or just want to feel like the most put-together person in the security line, Platinum Elite is worth the upgrade.” Here’s an article from Travel + Leisure that you might find useful. They’ll likely have more review articles on other brands as well. [The Best Travelpro Luggage, Tested and Reviewed](https://www.travelandleisure.com/best-travelpro-luggage-6741116)

Best Carry On Luggage for 2026?
We got a set of TravelPro Maxlite direct from their site a few years ago and had a hell of a time getting it to stop smelling like a musty Chinese container ship. Set them both open outside in direct summer sun for a few days and they still reeked. Great luggage aside from that.

Best Carry On Luggage for 2026?
I’m an airline pilot. I fly 2-3 flights per day, 14-16 days a month. 6 years ago I bought a TravelPro Flight Crew 5 and it is still in quite descent condition. I now have a TravelPro Maxlite 5 as my travel luggage for vacations. I expect it to last at least 20 years if not much much longer. TravelPro.

Comparing TravelPro bags
I felt like the Costco variants were cheaper quality and lower featured so I ultimately returned them and got the Crew VersaPack and Maxlite 5. They're very nice and have done well, unfortunately I haven't gotten to travel too much so I don't know super well how they hold up to a lot of abuse.

thinking of splurging on a luggage set, any recs that'll last for years?
Airline pilot here. I have a Travelpro Maxlite 5 for travel, and the 2 wheel Travelpro FlightCrew 5 for work. That thing has done millions of miles and thousands of flights and it’s still going well. I replaced the handle 1 time, easy work. I abuse the hell out of my work luggage and it’s still going strong. Travelpro.

Tumi lasts forever. I have stuff from 2001 still in perfect condition. Added a spinner from them maybe 6 years ago. I've recently added a small travelpro spinner and tech backpack which seems solid, but only time will tell.

[Request] Check-in Luggage Suggestions - Lightweight but Large Volume
Travelpro Maxlite5. The soft sided large check-in spinner holds 142 liters and weighs 8 lbs. My usual checked bag is the medium (27”, 91-liter) which weighs a bit under 7 lbs. Even a little old lady like me can wrangle it easily.

Carry-on luggage for european customer
Travelpro Maxlite 5 Softside Expandable Carry on Luggage with 4 Spinner Wheels, Lightweight Suitcase, Men and Women, Shadow Grey, Compact Carry on 20-Inch My wife and I travel at least two months of the year mainly Europe and mainly Italy in the EU (lots of cobblestone bumps in Italy), we are all about the bag size fitting airplane rules and 100% carry-on is a must for planes and trains; and we look for soft-sided and the “least weight” for a quality bag; this is our current bag for both of us purchased Jul 2024 via Amazon; has been great so far (and I do watch the bag brands flight attendants and pilots use, and see a number of TravelPro); no wheel issues at all, we prefer 4-wheeler because airports seem to be very large and we tend to walk most of the time; good luck on your decision

What are your favorite niche BIFL items that are currently available?
You might like Travel Pro! I feel like they're a step up from Samsonite for luggage brands but more affordable than Briggs & Riley. I got my Maxlite 5 carryon suitcase from them in late 2019 right before a trip to Disney and its become my favorite piece of luggage! I had chronic pain and mobility issues at the time and needed something light and easy to maneuver. I'm also a lugggage/bag fanatic (been debating buying an Aer bag recently!) and its hard to impress me with bags especially because of my pain issues and this suitcase has. It doesn't have a ton of fancy features but the durability is top tier. Its gone on countless trips with me. You can stuff anything in it and bang it around as much as you want and its fine. I've stuffed random Christmas gifts in it, multiple souvenir popcorn buckets from different trips, including one shaped like the green alien from Toy Story (that was after my disney trip) dog toys, a coffee maker, you name it. I also frequently lug it through snow & ice from the car to my in-laws house and the wheels have held up completely fine. My fiance's travel pro suitcase is even older. I think his is going on 11 years old now?? And still works like new!

Samsonite or TravelPro Suitcase
I don't know, but he gave me a TravelPro and it's not like we were close blow-a-bunch-of-cash friends (I was mostly friends with his daughter), so I think it was probably one of the more economic options.

Samsonite or TravelPro Suitcase
As a data point, the only professional pilot I know (private jets) uses TravelPro and gives them as gifts as well.

Will this fit most major international airlines as a carry-on? My family won't let me get a brand that isn't Samsonite and I think this is the lightest weight option for me
See if your family will let you get a Travelpro. They're a high end brand like Samsonite. They even invented the suitcase with wheels iirc. The travelpro maxlite is shockingly light. But to explicitly answer your question: yes. But the bag sucks
