I never want to buy cookware again
[All Clad D3 Triple ply](https://www.americastestkitchen.com/equipment_reviews/1944-12-inch-stainless-steel-skillets). It will last forever (or close enough). Highly recommend by America’s Test Kitchen and Serious Eats. The skillets, saucepans and Dutch Ovens are great for homes and professional kitchens. Go to their website and create an account. A few times a year, a company they contract with (Home and Cook Sales) holds a huge sale on items with either manufacturer flaws or which have packaging issues. Get the latter. Who cares if the box is dinged? It still has the manufacturer warranty. The [12” skillet](https://www.all-clad.com/d3-stainless-3ply-bonded-cookware-fry-pan-with-lid-12-inch.html) that normally costs $179 will be down in the $99 range. Hand wash these pans. They work hard and generally clean up well but dishwashers are not great for quality cookware. A non scratch sponge and can of Barkeepers Friend will do whatever is needed. Good luck and happy cooking!

A stainless steel skillet or stock pan and a pot for an induction cooktop
I got the 12 inch all-clad D3 frying pan 4 years ago and use it nearly daily. Still looks brand new.

Anyone bought this before ?
I have a smaller d3 fry pan and a larger d5 (maybe French skillet?). Both purchased as 2nds or from homegoods. If it’s available, I think the d5 is a very worthwhile upgrade. Setting the size/shape of pan aside, the d5 cooks more evenly, better heat retention, etc.

Which type of pan is the BIFL king?
I love my cast iron and carbon steel pans but honestly my 12” All-Clad skillet would be the one I would take over all

Best cast iron skillet?
My next buy is either a Smithey No.12, I've been wanting a polished larger cast iron or an All-clad D3 stainless 12" frying pan

What frying pans are we buying? Tired of nonstick pans that only last 6 months.
All-Clad non-stick; All-Clad stainless steel D3; Smithy cast iron

What’s the pan everyone needs that’s BIFL?
Non-stick doesn’t last. Cast Iron is the ultimate in buy it for life and can be passed down generations. Enameled cast iron? Not so much, but the standard black cast iron skillet is a work horse. If buying new, I like Smithey, but Lodge is reasonable and almost as good. That said…you don’t always want to use cast iron. I bought a set of all clad a couple years ago - I went with the copper core, but the standard or d5 is just as good. It was not a cheap purchase, but I know I’ll never need to buy another set of cookware.

Name your top 5 BIFL items
1. Camelbak 32oz water bottle 2. Makita Drill/Driver 3. Danner Boots 4. Classic JanSport Backpack 5. All-Clad Stainless Fry Pan I've had all these for the better part of a decade, and never had an issue with any of them. They'll be passed down the generations (save the boots... big feet)

Brands you swear by that have Buy It For Life quality products
All Clad D3 is great, but imo if you want something nicer than that, you’re better off with another brand. Their copper core really doesn’t stand up to the competition. Falk has a significantly thicker copper layer, or Demeyere Atlantis/Proline is always a good choice
