SAFE alternative to Bunn MyCafe Coffee Maker?
I have a fancy pants coffee maker called a Breville Bambino. I'm loving it, but I don't think it's the basic "Just make me a cup of coffee and don't try to kill my children" machine that you are looking for. I have a Consumer Reports account and did a brief check and it looks like the top rated coffee makers are by Cuisinart. DCC-T20, DCC-3200, and DCC-4000. Hope that helps.

What are some items under $500 you’ve made so far that changed your life?
I bought a breville Bambino plus espresso machine on eBay 3 years ago for $150 and it's the one thing I would grab if I had to flee the house once the husband and pets were safe. The coffee is perfect for me, it's easy to clean, and small enough that it doesn't take up much counter space. New ones are around $350-400

Found this cleaning out my grandparents’ basement….worth making my first coffee maker?
I know we’re talking about a drip coffee maker, but for those concerned about power consumption, the Breville Bambino espresso maker uses an inline electric element and can produce an excellent Americano in less than 1 minute without keeping the reservoir heated all day.

Looking for espresso machine
You don’t need BIFL, you should start small. Breville Bambino is the best way to start, especially if you can get open box. If you love the hobby, then you can come back to the topic and you’ll know how far upmarket you will want to go.

What is the one product you thought buying the expensive one was a waste of money, until you got it?
Love breville. They're so well engineered. They just produce the best of whatever you're using them for. But no, the bambino supposedly has like a 5 year life span. Sigh I freaking love that machine tho

What home coffee essentials have held up and lasted you over time?
I've gotten a breville bambino with an okay grinder and it's making me better espressos than most cafes. Get some good and fresh espresso beans and I'm golden
