SAFE alternative to Bunn MyCafe Coffee Maker?
I have had this same model (MCU) since at least 2016, using it daily. I had this issue happen like 3 years in and this is what I do now: 1) I make sure that pop out screen is cleaned with soap at least weekly with dawn. I mostly rinsed it originally. And about every two years I call Bunn and have them mail me a replacement. 2) I unscrew the sprayer (it is meant to be easily taken apart) every so often and I make sure to clean that rubber gasket real well. I also take the spray head that pops off and I make sure none of the holes are clogged with calcium buildup. I have Bunn send me a replacement gasket when they send that replacement screen. After having started this routine, I have never experienced another explosion. Also, Bunn has never charged me for these parts. For beans, I use an Oxo burr grinder. The ones that are around $100. The grind is always set to 7. As you already know, it makes a dang good cup of coffee. I was determined to keep it going. It’s been running like a champ ever since, and explosion free. The Cup-One is their single cup brewer. The glass carafe automatic drip stopper models have a half carafe setting which will slow the flow rate for when you aren't brewing a full carafe and the manual drip stoppers have a half-open setting which achieves the same thing. I've been brewing a half liter of coffee using a KBT and the half-carafe setting for about 4 years now, only issue is that I occasionally forget the reset the manual drip stopper. I do like having the flexibility to make a 1.25 liters when we have guests or my wife would like to have coffee.
