Zwilling J.A. Henckels Professional S Chef's Set
ZWILLING Professional "S" knives are the classic knives for the professional kitchen. A solid steel, seamless manufacturing and three rivet design with full tang delivers optimum balance and the safe handling. The knives are honed and hand-finished by the most skilled artisans. The laser controlled edge is incredibly sharp. The knives are made of proprietary special formula German steel that has been perfected for more than 280 years. Combined with ZWILLING's FRIODUR ice-hardening technique, the result is a harder, sharper blade that will not stain or chip and remains sharp longer. Each knife is precision forged from a single piece of steel using ZWILLING's SIGMAFORGE process. The result is an exceptionally sturdy, balanced, and flexible blade. The bolster provides the right balance and acts as a finger guard. The paring knife is a small knife with a strong blade and center tip. It is ideal for cleaning, peeling and cutting small fruits and vegetables. Set includes 3" paring knife, 5" serrated utility knife, and 8" chef's knife.

Henckels Kitchen Knives. I finally replaced my chef's knife and was very surprised in the difference.
I have 1999 J.A.Henkles Professional S set that I still use daily. Only recently (in their lifespan) started sending them in for sharpening as evidently I suck at it. What a difference, but anyway, I love them

What’s a kitchen item you bought once and never had to replace?
Farberware cookware, 1982, what is now called Farberware Classic. When my wife and I combined households we found she had bought the same set at around the same time. Henckels Pro S knives. I bought a set in 1982 which I supplemented in the '80s and '90s. I'd never buy a set again. We bought some for my wife in the '00s which have held up well. 1957 Rival Crock-Pot slow cooker was a wedding gift to my mother. She gave it to me and I have used it regularly for 45 years. Olive wood spatulas, three of them, bought--I think--in the '90s. Still in good shape. Swiss Diamond covered high saute pans bought in the late '90s. Holding up nicely and are daily drivers used once or twice a day. I don't buy gadgets. I buy tools. Not everything is BIFL. I sharpened a veg peeler once. Not going to do that again. Every four or five years I'll replace it. The most important element of BIFL is care. If you're putting cookware in the dishwasher it will never be BIFL. Stop doing that. The single worst thing you can do. Care is not "babying." If you abuse your belongings they won't last. If you don't care then get used to replacing things and stop whining about it.
