Are these All-Clad pans from Costco the same quality as the ones this sub recommends?
You can use the All Clad D3 line that is shown above on an induction range. You can Also use D5 and the Copper Core line. If you want t to just check whether a piece of cookware is induction friendly, just see if a magnet will stick to the bottom. If it sticks, it’s induction friendly.

Which type of pan is the BIFL king?
You're both right. Cast iron is amazing, I used to love cooking on it. However, it's such a pain in the butt to maintain that I've switched to stainless. If you do it right then the cleanup is minimal and the results are 98% of what cast iron is capable of. For the majority of my cookware I have Allclad copper core. Excellent pans and (most importantly) dishwasher safe. I do have one D5 that I absolutely love, but it's hand wash only because of the exposed aluminum.

About to buy the most expensive set of pots and pans in my life
Yes, I have a full set of copper core All Clad from this. I bought the “box damaged” items and the pans / pots were in flawless condition. Going on 5 years with the set, 15 total with All Clad pans. They’re absolutely BIFL.

Which moment made you switch to the "buy it for life" mindset?
The rule of thumb tends to be "hot pan, cold fat". Use butter. We swapped to stainless steel two years ago from nonstick and there is for sure a learning curve, but you'll get over the hump. The other big thing I had to learn was how much better the stainless steel pans (I have All-Clad Coppercore) distribute heat and warm up. With my old nonstick pans I'd often have the heat on med-high, but with the stainless it's on low unless I'm boiling water.

What frying pans are we buying? Tired of nonstick pans that only last 6 months.
There is a learning curve but look at a high quality stainless steel set. It will last beyond your lifetime. Look at Demeyere Atlantis or All-Clad Copper Core or All-Clad 7-ply.

Looking to replace every single item we own
We are in the US. Sorry you’re dealing with this, We went through this a couple years ago. Pans: all clad copper core. Love them. Very nice upgrade from our old pans. Other kitchen items we splurged on: breville espresso machine and toaster, vitamix immersion blender, vitamix blender, wusthof knives Mattress: big fig king mattress with adjustable base. Most comfortable bed we have ever had. Adjustable base is amazing.

What’s the pan everyone needs that’s BIFL?
Non-stick doesn’t last. Cast Iron is the ultimate in buy it for life and can be passed down generations. Enameled cast iron? Not so much, but the standard black cast iron skillet is a work horse. If buying new, I like Smithey, but Lodge is reasonable and almost as good. That said…you don’t always want to use cast iron. I bought a set of all clad a couple years ago - I went with the copper core, but the standard or d5 is just as good. It was not a cheap purchase, but I know I’ll never need to buy another set of cookware.

What’s the pan everyone needs that’s BIFL?
All clad copper core will last a lifetime. It’s even dishwasher safe (copper core edge may discolor—zero concerns have I about that 🤓). I love my All Clad.

Best Kitchen Cookware Set on the Market Now?
The GreenPan Valencia cookware is amazing, but it isn't BIFL. It's more of a 3-5 year product. My best recommendation for true BIFL products are the All-Clad D3 stainless steel cookware. I've been an avid user of their Copper-Core lineup (as well as the GreenPan Valencia), and they are absolutely awesome! The heat distribution is even, they are dishwasher-safe, and they are absolutely gorgeous!

What is a BIFL item/product you recommend?
I have the briggs and Riley Baseline carryon, medium roller (getting the Large/XL means you will be over the 50lb domestic (US) weight limit), and a cabin 2-wheel underseat roller. Great bags, although the wife wanted Away (seem nice so far, but not my preference). Tom Bihn backpacks. Took a week long trip to the tropics and the bag is a little unorthodox but it can hold a lot of stuff. And you have a variety of fabrics to select. Bose over hear headphones - great for travel and mine have lasted for awhile. For life is somewhat limited but its an electronic item that has a little tech, its a tradeoff. Sonicare toothbrush - It is like 10 years old on the original battery. Teeth are life. Agree with the Leatherman Wave+, good tool doesn't really excel at any one thing, but useful to have. Cookware: DeBuyer carbon steel country fry pan. I prefer this over cast iron. Demeyere Atlantis Fry pan - great steel fry pan. Allclad copper core (functionally similar to the d3 but I like the appearance of the copper line that shows through and I don't worry about cleaning it). I have watches. Mechanical ones are nice but as the old joke goes if you have to pick a watch to wear for the rest of your life what would you choose and no you can't choose your g-shock. NiMH batteries - where possible get rid of alkaline even if they are cheaper. They will leak and ruin your day and maybe even the device they are in. I choose Eneloops, the normal not the pro variant. Skip the LION batteries for now as they are 3.7v and require a voltage regulator to go to 1.5v, but if you need the 1.5v instead of 1.2v for the device meaning the NiMH won't work then the normal 1.6v lithium batteries would work. High quality LED lights - CRI should be 90+. They are a long term consumable but higher quality light is better. Knipex and Klein for tools. Knipex makes my favorite generalist pliers/wrenches. Klien makes great hand tools, I prefer the MiUSA options and use their linesmans for random things. Klien also makes a bottle opener, Wera does too and they are somewhat comfortable to hold. Clothes that don't have spandex. Spandex and elastic fail. I have had Patagonia fleece for 30 years and it still works. Randolph sunglasses - I just like them. Ray Ban 4140, they have spring hinges which means I can wear my spouse's and they have had theirs for 15 years although I had to buy new aftermarket lenses. Also discovered a french brand Cartel that also uses spring hinges, but don't know enough about this brand. Miele Washer and Dryer - gets rid of the vent ducting behind and they are solid if a little quirky. They canister vacuum is great. Converted the in-laws to this brand and they just went from the upright to the canister.

Stainless steel vs Hexclad pan set
Here are some [pics](https://imgur.com/a/X9zhXOB) of my oldest pan. 20+ years old used often and just as good as the day I bought it. Allclad makes great stuff that lasts. I like the copper core but they have several lines that last and perform great. I highly recommend looking for used pieces. I have slowly expanded my collection over the years and never buy new unless it is a very great deal (I used to live close to an outlet williams sonoma) about half my cookware I got used on Facebook or ebay. My experience with nonstick is it just doesn't last. After a few years it just stops working well. Even expensive stuff. I bought an 8 inch all clad copper core nonstick new and that finish is not lifetime. Also I watched the movie Dark Waters when it came out and it made me be cautious about nonstick/ptfe.

Pots and pans that last?
I really like my all-clad pots and pans (I have copper core). I also have a few le Creuset enameled cast iron pans - these have become my favorite due to how easy they are to clean. I’ve tried raw cast iron and did not like it as much. I also prefer my lc enameled cast iron to a staub Dutch oven I have.

Stainless steel cookware recommendations?
It is pricey but the copper core series from all clad is stellar. They have a factory seconds site that is pretty good
