I have a classic retro-x from Patagonia that I got on sale in 2016. I wear it a lot in the fall winter and it is still in perfect condition. I get so many compliments (it’s a fun pattern) and it’s quite warm and blocks the wind nicely. I usually wear it in California where I live but it’s also done great in freezing cold Wyoming. Also haven’t had any issues washing it. I air dry and that seems to work great!

I think the guy above is confused there are 2 patagonia products that look and sound similar, the retro and the retro x. The retro is thinner cheaper and not windproof. The retro x is thicker more expensive and has a wind proof lining. You've asked about the retro x. Specifically the latest model which has been redesigned this season. I have the old retro x and it is definitely windproof. Just to note there's nothing wrong with the retro (non x) it's great if you don't need wind proofing (e.g. If you're indoors or wearing it under a shell) and if you're after a lighter weight fleece.

I have the Retro X as well as some merino and alpaca stuff. The Retro X is really a heavier jacket, as opposed to a traditional fleece sweater. There really isn’t a merino or alpaca option I’ve seen that’s comparable, especially in the price. I will say my alpaca hoodie is my favorite piece of clothing.
