A proper cold-weather jacket beats a hoodie and a rain shell every day of the week. Crafted from Fjallraven’s rugged G-1000 material and with 2 layers of insulation, the Greenland Winter Jacket is comfier, warmer and better-looking than the standard hoodie/shell combo. Hardwearing G-1000 material is impregnated with fluorocarbon-free wax for better protection from the elements. Lined with soft, heavy pile fleece lining. Streamlined hood keeps you warm and dry. Supreme Microloft insulation traps a layer of warm air between the soft fleece and rugged outer layer, insulating you from the elements. Reinforced shoulders and elbows add an extra layer of protection in the most hardwearing areas. 2-way zipper helps keep the heat in. Tons of pocket space to bring along all your necessities, and even some of your nice-to-haves. Adjustable snaps at the cuffs and a drawcord at the hem keep the cold out and warm in.

Fjallraven Winter Coats
I believe the temperamental zipper was just on a couple models of jacket. I have a Greenland down jacket and its zipper has been flawless. That said, it’s a light down parka, not really suited to super cold climates where you regularly see temps in single digit F.

Filson vs Fjällräven
I don't have too much experience with Tina cloth like Filson. I've been in their store numerous times and have looked at their offerings and materials and personally I don't really like it. But my guess is given how saturated it is with oil/wax, it would probably be more abrasion resistant then G1000 straight from the store. However you can also heavily wax G1000 to get a similar affect. The light waxing that G1000 comes with out of the store you barely notice, but the material itself looks and feels pretty nice. It is very tightly woven so that the threads do not snag very easily. I'm sure if you are constantly kneeling/rubbing on sharp/rough rocks you would eventually wear through, but same can be said for tin cloth. However if you are conscious about taking care of your stuff, even when you are out wearing it, it will last a very long time. My oldest G1000 item is a Greenland Jacket which is about a decade old. I use this in all sorts of situations for around town, to various camping and hunting trips. Have given it a few waxes throughout. After all this time, it still looks great with absolutely no wear. Just developed a nice "putina" from the waxing and use.

Filson vs Fjällräven
I also have the Greenland Winter Parka for 5 years and love it. Perfect pocket placement, really versatile.

Best down jacket BIFL?
I use a fjallraven Greenland no. 1. Lightweight cordura and I’ve put it through hell. Still in great shape.

Addressing Common Fjällräven Misconceptions
That's great to hear. The Greenland jacket is more of an everyday jacket compared to the vidda pro hence the lighter material and looser fit.

Addressing Common Fjällräven Misconceptions
I’ve got a few Fjallraven bits and love them and certainly feel like they are repairable if I needed to fix or patch anything which I like but haven’t had to do that. 2 Vidda pro jackets one made in Vietnam and one in china, this is my explorer jacket and gets treated pretty harshly when out and about. Singi 28 backpack, extremely well made brought it used and have put it through its paces and minus a sticky zip which I will get fixed if it fails is still great. Greenland jacket, feels less substantial than the vidda pro and baggy, again brought it used and still fine but I need to test it more. Skule 28 this is the only thing I have that’s not made of g1000 so I am wondering how it will age but otherwise is a fantastic bag but I’ve not had it long enough to really test it. Karl pro? Shorts, great over summer, no fading and no issues. Overall, it all feels like quality kit that will last me a long time. I have brought most of it on sale or used and try to use it all as much as possible but I am not out in the Forrest making camp fires all the time so do bear that in mind. Happy with everything that I have purchased, fit and finish is something I really appreciate. When I get a chance to put my vidda pro and my singi on and go for a hike it genuinely adds to the experience in a way that makes me happy.

All weather all year jacket for life recommendation?
Thank you for the prompt reply, really appreciate it! I’m pretty much in the same mindset as you regarding membrane/goretex vs waxed garments. My current top pick is Fjallraven Greenland, but currently considering Paramo, Carhartt, and Patagonia as well. Thanks for pointing out the iron forge canvas. Never heard of it untill now and that one looks nice. How do you find your Vidda Pro performs untill now?
