Brands That Used to Be BIFL — But Aren't Anymore?
Yeah their trousers are still top notch. I have a pair of Kebs I use for backcountry camping and canoeing in rugged Northern Ontario the last 5 years and they're still in top notch condition besides in burn home in the stretchy portion of fabric which was my fault. I just got a pair of Vidda Pros recently for fall hiking/backcountry, hunting, and work around the homestead and they have an incredibly solid build and I expect they'll last me 10+ years

Addressing Common Fjällräven Misconceptions
That's great to hear. The Greenland jacket is more of an everyday jacket compared to the vidda pro hence the lighter material and looser fit.

Addressing Common Fjällräven Misconceptions
I’ve got a few Fjallraven bits and love them and certainly feel like they are repairable if I needed to fix or patch anything which I like but haven’t had to do that. 2 Vidda pro jackets one made in Vietnam and one in china, this is my explorer jacket and gets treated pretty harshly when out and about. Singi 28 backpack, extremely well made brought it used and have put it through its paces and minus a sticky zip which I will get fixed if it fails is still great. Greenland jacket, feels less substantial than the vidda pro and baggy, again brought it used and still fine but I need to test it more. Skule 28 this is the only thing I have that’s not made of g1000 so I am wondering how it will age but otherwise is a fantastic bag but I’ve not had it long enough to really test it. Karl pro? Shorts, great over summer, no fading and no issues. Overall, it all feels like quality kit that will last me a long time. I have brought most of it on sale or used and try to use it all as much as possible but I am not out in the Forrest making camp fires all the time so do bear that in mind. Happy with everything that I have purchased, fit and finish is something I really appreciate. When I get a chance to put my vidda pro and my singi on and go for a hike it genuinely adds to the experience in a way that makes me happy.

All weather all year jacket for life recommendation?
The Vidda Pro is well made. I can't complain in this regard. It is also cheap considering all other options on the market.... For the money it is great. Be aware that it hasn't any lining and no pockets on the inside. It is meant to be worn as outer layer. If you plan to wear it over another jacket, a thick wool pullover it is awesome. I wouldn't wear it over a T-Shirt because this looks strange. It would look too big in size? I don't know how to explain... but the quality is good. Compared to the Fjällräven Patagonia is in another league. The build quality is much better. Everything is more thought out. And built to last forever. There are double and triple stitches. It is meant for work. The Vidda Pro is made for Hiking and Outdoor and Bushcraft, but the Ranch jacket is build for work. And they seem to know that no farmer or rancher will buy it again if it doesn't hold up to its promise. It is just on another level of sturdiness and build quality and additionally Patagonia is offering repair services all over the world and are known for giving discounts if something isn't repairable anymore. I almost only buy good-looking workwear anymore because most of it will last forever (BIFL) if worn casually. So... Fjällraven may be good for what it is meant to be. It is a station wagon to go on a hiking trip with your family. But Carhartt and Patagonia Work wear is like a Toyota Land Cruiser meant to be taken offroad and will get you way beyond the weekend trip to Yellowstone. :)

All weather all year jacket for life recommendation?
Hello. I bought 2 jackets that absolutely fit my needs now and both are sturdy as hell and will last for years. First of all: After reading a ton and watching a ton of videos I decided that I won’t buy any Goretex or similar stuff anymore. I don’t need it because I won’t go on any northpole expedition nor will I ever do stuff like ice climbing. So if you are looking for something similar, go for waxed jackets. Applying wax is easy. They are waterproof. They are cotton or mixed cotton polyester. I’m from Europe so getting good waxed jackets is harder than in the US. You might want to watch this video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PRmpVtlN2o8 I ended up with Fjällräven Vidda Pro because I just wanted a waxed outer layer, I wanted it to be longer on the knees and I didn’t want to spend 300€ upwards for a Barbour. I’m wearing it for any kind of wet weather and also for hiking, riding my bike to work, snow shoveling and stuff like that. After a while I wasn’t happy with it for more daily stuff like shopping, work,… the vidda pro looks very… outdoor-y? I wanted to have a daily driver that I really could wear in any situation except extreme weather. I ended up with the Patagonia Iron Forge Canvas Ranch jacket. Oh boy… I love the look. It fits so well to my Redwind Iron ranger. It is warm but not too warm. It’s so well made. It’s one of those rare items I would buy twice just to have a spare one for like in 30 years when they may not be made anymore… It’s the best jacket for spring - fall. For summer it may be a little bit too warm but I have worn it in summer on the mountain with just a t-Shirt. It is not rain proof but you will stay dry for a while, especially if you just go around by car and need to go from car to the supermarket or if you drive with the bus and have a 5 minute walk home.
